Homey Terms of Service

Last updated: October 1, 2026

These terms govern your use of Homey, a faith and community app published by Ode Abode LLC ("Abode", "we", "us"), a Missouri limited liability company based in Kansas City, Missouri. By creating an account, you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use Homey.

1. Agreement, Eligibility and Accounts

1.1 Acceptance. By creating an account, accessing Homey, or using any part of the service, you agree to these Terms of Service and to our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated here by reference. These terms form a binding agreement between you and Abode.

1.2 Age requirements. You must be at least 13 years old to use Homey. Homey is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If we learn that an account belongs to someone under 13, we will close it and delete the associated information.

If you are between 13 and 17, you may use Homey only with the permission of a parent or legal guardian. By allowing you to use Homey, your parent or guardian agrees to these terms on your behalf and accepts responsibility for your use of the service.

If the law where you live sets a higher minimum age for consenting to the processing of your personal data, that age applies to you instead.

1.3 Your account. You agree to provide accurate information when you register and to keep it current. You are responsible for keeping your credentials secure and for everything that happens under your account. Tell us promptly at admin@odeabode.co if you believe your account has been accessed without your permission.

One person, one account. Do not create an account for anyone else, impersonate another person or organization, or use an account that has previously been terminated by us.

1.4 Accounts created through a ministry. If you join Homey through a church, ministry, or other organization, you are still an individual account holder and these terms apply to you directly. Section 5 explains what that organization can and cannot see and do.

1.5 Accepting on behalf of an organization. If you accept these terms on behalf of a church, ministry, school, or other entity, you represent that you have the authority to bind that entity, and "you" refers to both you and that entity.

1.6 Our discretion. We may refuse service, close accounts, or decline to make Homey available to any person or in any territory, at our discretion and to the extent permitted by law.

2. Acceptable Use and Zero Tolerance

2.1 Zero tolerance. By creating an account, you agree not to post, share, or transmit unlawful content, harassing, abusive, threatening, hateful, sexually explicit, exploitative of minors, or otherwise objectionable. You agree not to harass, abuse, impersonate, or harm another member.

Homey has no tolerance for objectionable content or abusive behavior. We review every report within 24 hours and will remove content and terminate the accounts of members who violate these terms, without notice and at our sole discretion.

2.2 Content you may not post. You may not post, upload, stream, or transmit content that:

  • is unlawful, or promotes or facilitates unlawful activity

  • sexualizes, exploits, endangers, or is otherwise harmful to a minor, in any form, including text, images, or suggestion

  • is pornographic, sexually explicit, or sexually suggestive

  • harasses, bullies, threatens, intimidates, or targets another person

  • promotes hatred or violence against any person or group

  • depicts or encourages self-harm, suicide, or disordered eating

  • depicts graphic violence or gore

  • promotes or facilitates the sale or use of illegal drugs, weapons, or regulated goods

  • infringes anyone's copyright, trademark, privacy, publicity, or other rights

  • contains another person's private or identifying information, shared without their consent

  • is false or deceptive in a way that could cause harm, including impersonating another person or ministry

  • is spam, solicitation, chain content, or commercial advertising

  • contains malware, or is designed to interfere with the service or any user's device

2.3 Conduct that is prohibited. You may not:

  • harass, abuse, stalk, threaten, or intimidate another member, in posts, comments, direct messages, live streams, or anywhere else on Homey

  • contact a minor for any purpose that is not appropriate, transparent, and consistent with the ministry context in which you met them

  • encourage secrecy between yourself and a minor, or attempt to move a conversation with a minor off Homey to avoid oversight

  • use Homey to solicit money, recruit for outside ventures, or promote products, services, or causes unrelated to the ministry space you are in

  • create multiple accounts, evade a ban, or access Homey through an account that is not yours

  • collect or scrape information about other members by any means

  • attempt to access areas of the service you are not authorized to access, probe or test our security, or interfere with the service's operation

  • use automated means to access, create content on, or interact with Homey

  • reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to derive the source code of any part of Homey

  • misrepresent your role, credentials, or affiliation with a church or ministry

2.4 Reporting. Every post, comment, message, and live stream in Homey can be reported. If you encounter something that violates these terms, report it. If you believe someone is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services first — see Section 6.

2.5 This list is not exhaustive. We may remove content or terminate an account for conduct that is not specifically listed here but that we reasonably believe is harmful to members, to a ministry using Homey, or to Abode.

3. Your Content and Anonymous Posting

3.1 You own what you write. You keep ownership of the posts, prayers, comments, messages, images, audio, and video you create in Homey. These terms do not transfer ownership of your content to us.

3.2 The license you give us. To run Homey, we need permission to handle your content. You grant Abode a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, modify for technical purposes such as formatting and resizing, display, and transmit your content — solely for the purpose of operating, maintaining, securing, and improving the service, and only to the audience you shared it with.

This license extends to the service providers we use to run Homey, such as hosting and content-delivery providers, strictly for those purposes.

We will not use your content to advertise or promote Homey, or feature it publicly, without asking you first. A prayer request is not marketing material.

3.3 How long the license lasts. The license ends when you delete your content or your account, except that: copies may remain in routine backups for a limited period; content you sent to others may remain in their copies; and content preserved under Section 8 for safety, legal, or enforcement reasons is retained as described there.

3.4 Your responsibility for what you post. You represent that you have the rights necessary to post what you post, and that your content does not violate these terms or anyone else's rights. You are solely responsible for your content and for any consequences of posting it.

3.5 We don't pre-screen, and we're not obligated to store. We do not review content before it is posted. We have no obligation to store, back up, or return your content. Deleting a post removes it permanently, and we may not be able to recover it for you.

3.6 Anonymous posting — what it does and does not mean. Some features let you post without your name shown to other members, including prayer and praise posts and viewing live streams. This exists because people disclose things in a prayer request that they would never attach their name to, and that is worth protecting.

Anonymous means anonymous to other members. It does not mean anonymous to us. Every post in Homey, anonymous or not, is recorded with the account that created it. We can identify the author of any content, and we will do so when a post is reported, when we are enforcing these terms, when safety requires it, or when we are legally required to.

Posting anonymously does not exempt you from these terms and does not protect you from enforcement under Section 8. If you abuse an anonymous feature, we will find out who you are and remove your account.

3.7 Feedback. If you send us suggestions or ideas about Homey, you grant us the right to use them without restriction, obligation, or compensation to you.

4. Minors and Safeguarding

Homey is used by youth ministries, and members between 13 and 17 use the service alongside adults. This section sets out how that works. Read it carefully whether you are a parent, a minor, or an adult who interacts with minors in a ministry space.

4.1 Parental consent and parental rights. A member under 18 may use Homey only with the permission of a parent or legal guardian. A parent or guardian may contact us at admin@odeabode.co to review, request deletion of, or withdraw consent for their child's account and information. We will verify the request before acting on it.

4.2 Conversations between adults and minors are not private. Where a church or ministry has designated a safeguarding lead, that person may have visibility into direct messages and other one-to-one communication between adult members and minor members within that ministry's space, and a record of that oversight is kept.

If you are an adult communicating with a minor on Homey, do not expect those conversations to be private. They are subject to review. If you are a minor or a parent, understand that this oversight exists precisely so that those conversations are not unobserved.

4.3 Conduct toward minors. In addition to Section 2, you may not: contact a minor for any purpose outside the transparent ministry context in which you met; ask a minor to keep a conversation secret from parents or church leadership; attempt to move a conversation with a minor to another platform to avoid oversight; request or share images of a minor outside normal ministry activity; or pursue a romantic or sexual interest in a minor in any form.

Violations of this section result in immediate account termination and, where appropriate, a report to law enforcement. There is no warning, no strike, and no appeal.

4.4 Verified Leader status reflects the church's vetting, not ours. Where a church designates members as leaders within its space, that designation is based on the church's own background checks, training, and policies. Abode does not conduct background checks and does not vet, endorse, or vouch for any church leader, volunteer, or member. A leader badge in Homey means that the church identified that person as a leader. It means nothing more.

4.5 What churches are responsible for. A church or ministry using Homey is responsible for screening and supervising its own leaders and volunteers, maintaining its own child protection policy, complying with its own legal obligations including any mandatory reporting duties, and responding to concerns involving its members. Nothing in Homey replaces any of that.

4.6 Reporting harm. If you believe a minor is being harmed or is at risk, contact your local authorities first, then report it in Homey and email admin@odeabode.co. We will preserve relevant records, cooperate with law enforcement and child protection authorities, and make reports where we are required to by law or where we believe a minor is at risk.

4.7 Content involving minors. We use automated detection, including hash-matching technology, to identify known child sexual abuse material. Accounts involved in such material are terminated and reported to the appropriate authorities.

5. Church and Ministry Spaces

Churches and ministries can license a private space within Homey for their own members. If you join one, this section applies to you.

5.1 What a space is. A ministry space is a private area within Homey containing that ministry's own posts, announcements, events, groups, and study content, visible to its members. Joining one does not create a separate account — you remain an individual member of Homey under these terms.

5.2 What the ministry can see. A ministry and its designated leaders can see the content you post within that ministry's space, your participation in its groups and events, aggregate engagement information about its own members, and, where a safeguarding lead is designated, the communications described in Section 4.2.

5.3 What the ministry cannot see. A ministry cannot see your activity elsewhere in Homey, content you post outside its space, your membership in other ministry spaces, your private messages with people outside its space, or your account credentials. We do not sell or share your personal information with a ministry beyond what this section describes.

5.4 The ministry controls its own space. A ministry decides who may join, may remove a member from its space at any time and for its own reasons, and sets expectations for conduct within it that may be stricter than these terms. Removal from a ministry space does not close your Homey account.

5.5 Ministries are independent of Abode. A church, ministry, or other organization using Homey is a separate and independent entity. Its leaders, staff, and volunteers are not employees, agents, or representatives of Abode, and we are not responsible for their conduct, their teaching, their decisions, or their treatment of you.

Disputes between you and a ministry — about membership, leadership, doctrine, pastoral care, money, or anything else — are between you and that ministry. We are not a party to them and will not arbitrate them.

5.6 Content a ministry publishes. Announcements, teaching, sermon material, and other content a ministry publishes into its space is that ministry's content and responsibility, not ours. We do not review, endorse, or verify it.

5.7 If a ministry's partnership ends. If a ministry stops partnering with Abode, its space and the content within it may become unavailable. Your individual Homey account and your own content outside that space are not affected. We will give the ministry reasonable notice and an opportunity to export its data; what the ministry does with that opportunity is its responsibility.

5.8 Join codes. Codes and invitations to a ministry space are for the people that ministry intends to invite. Do not share them publicly or with anyone the ministry has not invited.

6. Prayer, Care, and What Homey Is Not

Read this section before relying on Homey in a moment of crisis. It is the most important section in these terms.

6.1 Homey is not an emergency service. Homey is not an emergency, crisis, counseling, medical, psychiatric, or mental health service. It is not a substitute for professional care, for a crisis line, or for emergency responders.

If you or someone else is in immediate danger, call 911 or your local emergency number. In the United States, you can also reach the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline by calling or texting 988, or the Crisis Text Line by texting HOME to 741741. Do not use Homey to summon emergency help.

6.2 What care routing actually does. Homey includes features that look for language patterns that may indicate a member is struggling, and that notify a ministry's designated care contact when such language appears. These features exist to help a ministry notice sooner. They are a signal, not a safety net.

These features are automated, imperfect, and will miss things. They may fail to detect genuine distress. They may flag content that is not distress at all. They depend on a ministry having designated a care contact, on that person being available, and on that person choosing to act. Abode does not monitor Homey for emergencies, does not respond to crises, and does not guarantee that any message will be seen, flagged, routed, or acted upon by anyone.

6.3 No duty to monitor or intervene. We have no obligation to monitor content, to detect distress, to notify anyone, or to intervene in any situation. We may do any of these things at our discretion, and doing so once creates no obligation to do so again.

6.4 Who responds. Where a ministry has designated a care contact, that person is responsible for responding. That person is part of the ministry, not part of Abode. We do not supervise, train, direct, or vouch for them, and we are not responsible for how they respond or whether they respond at all.

6.5 Prayer requests are not confidential communications. Posting a prayer request in Homey does not create a counselor–client, pastor–penitent, doctor–patient, or any other privileged or confidential relationship with Abode. Content you post may be seen by other members, by ministry leaders, and by us as described in these terms. Do not post anything you need to remain legally privileged.

6.6 No professional advice. Content in Homey — including study material, sermon content, curriculum, devotional writing, and anything generated by AI features — is for spiritual encouragement and education only. It is not medical, psychological, legal, or financial advice, and should not be relied on as such. Consult a qualified professional for those needs.

6.7 Your acknowledgment. By using Homey, you acknowledge that you understand this section, that you will not rely on Homey for emergency or crisis response, and that you will contact emergency services directly when someone is in danger.

7. AI Features and Abode's Content

7.1 AI-assisted features. Homey includes features that use artificial intelligence to generate summaries, outlines, study questions, applications, and similar material, including from sermon content a ministry provides.

7.2 AI output is not reviewed by us and may be wrong. Output from these features is generated automatically. It may be inaccurate, incomplete, misleading, or theologically mistaken. It does not represent Abode's teaching, doctrinal position, or endorsement, and it is not reviewed by us before it appears.

Where a ministry publishes AI-generated material into its space, that ministry is responsible for reviewing it first. Do not rely on AI-generated content without checking it against scripture and the teaching of your own church.

7.3 Sermon and ministry content provided to AI features. Where a ministry provides sermon recordings, transcripts, or other teaching material for processing, that material remains the ministry's content under the license in Section 3.2 and the ministry's own agreement with us. We process it to produce output for that ministry's space.

7.4 Availability and limits. AI features are metered and may be limited, changed, suspended, or discontinued at any time. We do not guarantee any particular level of availability, output quality, or processing speed.

7.5 Abode's intellectual property. Homey itself — the application, its design, its name and logo, and all curriculum, devotional content, study material, books, and other content created by Abode — is owned by Ode Abode LLC and protected by copyright, trademark, and other laws.

7.6 Your license to Abode content. We grant you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to access and use Abode content within Homey, for your own spiritual and educational use and, where applicable, the ministry use your church has licensed.

You may not copy, reproduce, redistribute, publish, sell, sublicense, or create derivative works from Abode content; remove any copyright or attribution notice; or use Abode content outside Homey without our written permission. Reasonable personal use — quoting a devotional to a friend, discussing study material in your group — is fine and is not what this restricts.

7.7 Ministry licenses. Where a church or ministry has licensed Abode curriculum or commissioned custom content, the scope of that license is set by that ministry's written agreement with Abode. Members of that ministry receive access to the licensed content within that space; they do not receive any rights to use it elsewhere.

7.8 Third-party content. Homey includes scripture text and other material provided by third parties under their own licenses and terms. We do not own that content and are not responsible for its accuracy.

8. Moderation, Enforcement and Termination

8.1 Our commitment on reports. We review every report of objectionable content or abusive behavior within 24 hours of receiving it, and we remove content and terminate accounts that violate these terms.

8.2 Automated filtering. We use automated tools to detect and filter prohibited content, including profanity filtering and hash-matching for known child sexual abuse material. These tools run continuously but are not perfect, and their operation does not create any guarantee that prohibited content will be caught.

8.3 What we may do. Where we believe these terms have been violated, we may, at our sole discretion and without prior notice: remove or restrict content; limit or suspend features; suspend or terminate an account; remove a member from a ministry space; block a device or network; and report the matter to law enforcement or other authorities.

8.4 Warnings are not required. We may issue warnings or apply graduated measures, but we are not obliged to. Violations involving minors, sexual content, threats, or illegal activity result in immediate termination without warning.

8.5 Blocking. You can block another member. Blocking prevents contact in both directions. Blocking is not a substitute for reporting — if someone violated these terms, report them so we can act.

8.6 Preservation of records. When content is reported, or where we believe preservation is necessary for safety, legal compliance, or enforcement, we retain a copy of the content and the information identifying who created it, including for content posted anonymously and content the author has since deleted. We retain it for as long as necessary for those purposes.

8.7 Appeals. If you believe we removed your content or restricted your account in error, email admin@odeabode.co within 30 days and we will review it. We will respond, and our decision after review is final. Terminations under Section 4.3 are not subject to appeal.

8.8 Closing your account. You may close your account at any time in the app. When you do, your content is deleted or disassociated from you, except for content retained under Section 8.6, content others have saved or shared, and copies held in routine backups for a limited period.

8.9 Effect of termination. When an account ends, for any reason, your right to use Homey ends immediately. Sections 3.2 (to the extent described in 3.3), 3.4, 6, 7.5 through 7.7, 8.6, 9 and 10 survive termination.

8.10 No obligation to restore. We are not obliged to restore any account, content, or access that has been removed or terminated.

9. Purchases, Disclaimers and Liability

9.1 Purchases. Homey is free to download and use. Some content or features may be offered for purchase through the Apple App Store. Those purchases are processed by Apple under Apple's terms, and refunds are handled by Apple, not by us. Prices may change. Where a purchase renews automatically, the renewal terms are shown at the time of purchase and you can manage or cancel it in your App Store account settings.

9.2 Ministry licenses. Fees paid by a church or ministry under a partnership agreement are governed by that agreement, not by this section.

9.3 The service is provided as is. Homey is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, and non-infringement.

We do not warrant that Homey will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, or error-free; that any content, including AI-generated content and scripture text, will be accurate or complete; that defects will be corrected; or that any feature, including those described in Section 6, will detect, prevent, or address any particular situation.

9.4 Content from others. Homey contains content created by other members, by ministries, and by third parties. We do not endorse, verify, or take responsibility for it. Your interactions with other members and with ministries are solely between you and them.

9.5 Limitation of liability. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Abode and its members, officers, employees, and contractors will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, data, goodwill, or other intangible losses, arising out of or relating to your use of Homey — whether based in contract, tort, negligence, strict liability, or any other theory, and whether or not we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.

This includes, without limitation, any claim arising from: content posted by another member or by a ministry; the conduct of any member, ministry, leader, or volunteer; the failure of any feature to detect, flag, route, or respond to any situation, including any situation involving distress, crisis, self-harm, or harm to a person; unauthorized access to your account or content; or the unavailability, interruption, or discontinuation of the service.

9.6 Cap on liability. To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total liability to you for all claims arising out of or relating to these terms or your use of Homey will not exceed the greater of: the amount you paid Abode in the twelve months before the event giving rise to the claim, or one hundred US dollars ($100).

9.7 Where law does not allow this. Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or the limitation of certain damages. Where that is the case, the exclusions and limitations above apply to the fullest extent the law allows, and nothing in these terms limits liability for fraud, for willful misconduct, or for death or personal injury caused by our negligence where such limitation is prohibited.

9.8 Indemnification. You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Abode and its members, officers, employees, and contractors from any claim, demand, loss, liability, or expense, including reasonable legal fees, arising out of or relating to: your content; your use of Homey; your violation of these terms or of any law; or your violation of the rights of any other person or entity. We may assume the exclusive defense of any such matter at your expense, and you agree to cooperate with us in doing so.

10. Disputes, Governing Law and Other Terms

10.1 Talk to us first. If you have a problem, email admin@odeabode.co and describe it. Most things can be resolved this way. You agree to give us 30 days to resolve a dispute informally before starting any formal proceeding.

10.2 Arbitration. If we cannot resolve a dispute informally, you and Abode agree that any dispute arising out of or relating to these terms or your use of Homey will be resolved by binding individual arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association under its Consumer Arbitration Rules, rather than in court — except that either party may bring an individual claim in small claims court, and either party may seek injunctive relief in court to protect intellectual property rights.

10.3 No class actions. You and Abode agree that each may bring claims against the other only in an individual capacity, and not as a plaintiff or class member in any class, consolidated, or representative proceeding. The arbitrator may not consolidate more than one person's claims.

10.4 How to opt out. You may opt out of Sections 10.2 and 10.3 by emailing admin@odeabode.co with the subject line "Arbitration Opt-Out" within 30 days of first accepting these terms. Opting out does not affect any other part of these terms.

10.5 Governing law. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Missouri, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Where a dispute proceeds in court rather than arbitration, you and Abode consent to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in Missouri.

10.6 Copyright complaints. If you believe content in Homey infringes your copyright, email admin@odeabode.co with: identification of the work; identification of the content and where it appears; your contact information; a statement that you believe in good faith the use is not authorized; a statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information is accurate and you are authorized to act; and your signature. We remove infringing content and terminate repeat infringers.

10.7 Changes to these terms. We may update these terms. When we do, we will update the date at the top and, for material changes, give notice in the app or by email before they take effect. Continuing to use Homey after a change takes effect means you accept the updated terms. If you do not accept them, close your account.

10.8 Apple. These terms are between you and Abode, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for Homey or its content. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you. Your use of Homey is also subject to Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement.

10.9 Other terms. These terms, together with our Privacy Policy and Apple's standard end user license agreement, are the entire agreement between you and Abode regarding Homey. If any provision is held unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of it. You may not assign these terms; we may assign them in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets. Nothing in these terms creates a partnership, employment, or agency relationship between you and Abode.
